Our Sustainability Commitments
Education has the power to shape the future, and we believe that future should be sustainable. At Bancroft Education, we are committed to considering our environmental and social impact as we grow, from the resources we create to the organisations and initiatives we support.
Our Commitments
Sustainability is an ongoing responsibility rather than a single achievement. As Bancroft Education grows, we aim to make decisions that support accessible education, responsible growth, and a positive contribution to the communities and environments around us. We aim to be transparent about the initiatives we introduce, the progress we make, and the areas in which we can continue to improve.
The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals provide a global framework for building a more sustainable, inclusive, and equitable future. Bancroft Education is not affiliated with or endorsed by the United Nations; however, we use relevant Sustainable Development Goals as a framework for guiding our sustainability commitments.
Goal 4: Quality Education
Education is at the centre of everything we do. Bancroft Education develops resources designed to help English learners build confidence, improve their language skills, and continue learning independently.
Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities
We aim to make high-quality English-learning resources accessible to learners from different backgrounds and locations through affordable educational materials, free supporting resources, and accessible digital content.
Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production
As Bancroft Education develops its publishing and product activities, we aim to consider responsible production and waste reduction when making operational decisions. For example, our printed books, including those in the EFL Story Collection, are printed on groundwood paper, reducing the carbon footprint compared to printing on traditional paper. We also use a print-on-demand model, meaning books are produced in response to orders rather than being printed and stored in large quantities. This helps us reduce unnecessary production, excess stock, and material waste.
Goal 13: Climate Action
Through initiatives including the Bancroft Education Forest, we aim to support projects that contribute positively to the natural environment and encourage greater awareness of environmental responsibility.
Goal 15: Life on Land
We aim to support credible tree-planting and environmental restoration initiatives that contribute to healthier terrestrial ecosystems and the protection and restoration of natural environments. For example, for all promotional materials that we print (such as business cards and flyers), our supplier plants a tree for every order; this is just one of our steps to supporting sustainable practices.
The Bancroft Education Forest
As a publisher of printed educational resources, we recognise that our work has an environmental impact. We want responsible publishing and environmental awareness to form part of Bancroft Education from the beginning.
Alongside the launch of Bancroft Education in September 2026, our founder launched the Bancroft Education Forest through Treedom.
To celebrate the release of each book in the EFL Story Collection, trees are planted in the Bancroft Education Forest and named after characters in the books. Readers, learners, and supporters can also contribute directly to the Forest using the link below.
