1. Introduction
This Accessibility & Safeguarding page explains the approach taken by Bancroft Education Ltd ("Bancroft Education", "we", "us", "our") to accessibility, inclusive access and safeguarding in relation to our website, educational resources and communications.
Bancroft Education creates educational content for learners, teachers and other users, including resources that may be suitable for teenagers as well as adults. We want people to be able to access our materials as independently, safely and comfortably as reasonably possible.
This page should be read alongside our Privacy Policy, Cookie Policy and Terms & Conditions.
2. Our Accessibility Commitment
We aim to design, develop and maintain our website and digital content with accessibility in mind and to reduce barriers that may make it more difficult for disabled people or people with additional access needs to use our services.
Our approach is guided by recognised accessibility principles, including the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). We aim, where reasonably practicable, to work towards the Level AA success criteria that are relevant to our website and digital content.
This statement of intent should not be interpreted as a claim that every page, document or item of third-party content has been formally audited or fully conforms to every WCAG 2.2 Level AA success criterion.
3. How We Approach Website Accessibility
When developing and maintaining our website, we aim to consider accessibility measures including:
- clear page structures, headings and navigation;
- meaningful alternative text for informative images where appropriate;
- keyboard-accessible navigation and interactive elements where reasonably practicable;
- visible focus states for interactive controls;
- readable text, appropriate spacing and sufficient colour contrast;
- layouts that adapt to different screen sizes and devices;
- content that can generally be enlarged or zoomed without preventing access to essential information;
- clear link text and labels where possible;
- avoiding unnecessary flashing, rapidly moving or distracting content; and
- using plain and understandable language where appropriate to the purpose and audience of a page.
Accessibility is an ongoing process. We may identify and correct issues as our website develops, new content is published and technologies change.
4. Accessibility of Educational Resources
Our educational resources may be provided in different formats, including webpages, downloadable documents, books, images, audio recordings, audiobooks and video.
We aim to consider accessibility when creating new resources, but the level of accessibility that can reasonably be provided may vary depending on the format, educational purpose and technical limitations of the resource.
Audio content may support learners who prefer or benefit from listening, while written content may support users who prefer visual access. Where suitable alternative formats are already available, we will make them clear on the relevant product or resource page.
If you experience a barrier when using one of our resources, you may contact us to explain the difficulty. Where reasonably practicable, we will consider whether an accessible alternative, adjustment or other form of assistance can be provided.
5. Downloadable Documents and PDFs
Some downloadable documents may contain complex layouts, illustrations, tables, learning activities or other visual elements that can make complete accessibility more difficult to achieve.
We aim to improve the accessibility of new and updated downloadable resources over time. Some older resources or resources designed for a particular printed activity may not work perfectly with every assistive technology.
If a document is difficult for you to access, please contact us and identify the resource concerned and the barrier you encountered.
6. Third-Party Content and Services
Our website may link to or use third-party websites, platforms, retailers, social media services, video or audio platforms and other external services.
We do not control the accessibility features of third-party services and cannot guarantee that they will meet the same accessibility standards or practices that we aim to follow.
Where a problem relates directly to a third-party platform, you may also need to use that provider's accessibility support or reporting process.
7. Known and Future Accessibility Limitations
We recognise that accessibility cannot be treated as a one-time task and that barriers may remain even where accessibility has been considered during design.
Potential limitations may include older downloadable files, complex educational layouts, third-party embedded content, decorative or illustrative material, and features introduced through external platforms.
As new features, resources and services are introduced, we will review their accessibility and make reasonable improvements where practicable.
8. Accessibility Feedback and Reasonable Adjustments
We welcome reports of accessibility problems. If you cannot access part of our website or one of our resources, please tell us:
- the page, product or resource you were trying to use;
- the accessibility barrier you encountered;
- the device, browser or assistive technology involved, where relevant; and
- what form of adjustment or alternative would help you, if you know.
We will consider requests for reasonable adjustments on an individual basis and will try to provide an appropriate solution where reasonably practicable.
Accessibility enquiries can be sent to support@bancrofteducation.com.
9. Our Safeguarding Commitment
Bancroft Education takes the safety and welfare of children and young people seriously. For the purposes of this page, references to a child or young person generally mean a person under the age of 18.
We aim to design and operate our website, resources and communications in a way that supports safe, professional and age-appropriate engagement.
Bancroft Education is an educational publisher and resource provider. Unless expressly stated for a particular service, we are not acting as a school, childcare provider or substitute for a school's, college's, organisation's or family's own safeguarding and child-protection arrangements.
10. Age-Appropriate Educational Content
Some Bancroft Education resources are intended for teenagers as well as adults. We aim to consider the likely age, language level and educational context of the intended audience when creating and presenting content.
Educational suitability and safeguarding are not determined by language level alone. A resource described as A2, B1 or another CEFR level refers primarily to language difficulty and should not automatically be interpreted as an age rating.
Parents, guardians, teachers, schools and other responsible adults should use their own judgement when deciding whether a particular story, topic, activity or resource is suitable for an individual learner.
Where a resource contains themes that may reasonably require additional context or consideration, we may provide relevant information on the product or resource page.
11. Children and Young People Using Our Website
Children and young people may access publicly available educational content where it is appropriate for them to do so.
We encourage parents, guardians, teachers and other responsible adults to take an appropriate interest in the websites, platforms and resources used by children in their care and to provide supervision suited to the child's age and circumstances.
Children and young people should not share unnecessary personal information with us or with other people online. They should never send passwords, financial information or other sensitive account credentials to Bancroft Education.
12. Communications with Bancroft Education
We aim to keep communications with learners, customers, teachers, parents, guardians and other users professional and appropriate.
Where Bancroft Education communicates directly with a child or young person in connection with an educational service, competition, project or other activity, we will consider the nature of that communication, the age of the participant and any appropriate parental, guardian, school or organisational involvement.
We do not encourage children to move communications to private personal accounts belonging to individuals acting on behalf of Bancroft Education.
If new interactive features such as user accounts, direct messaging, live classes, community spaces or user-generated content are introduced in the future, we will review the safeguarding measures and terms that apply to those features before or alongside their introduction.
13. Professional Boundaries
Anyone acting on behalf of Bancroft Education in an educational or professional capacity is expected to maintain appropriate professional boundaries when communicating with children and young people.
Communications should take place through appropriate professional channels and should relate to a legitimate educational, customer-service or operational purpose.
Personal relationships, inappropriate private communications, sexualised communication, harassment, intimidation, discrimination, grooming behaviour or exploitation are not acceptable.
14. Reporting a Safeguarding Concern
If you have a safeguarding concern connected with Bancroft Education, one of our resources, our website, or a communication or activity involving someone acting on our behalf, please report it to us as soon as possible.
You can contact support@bancrofteducation.com. Please include Safeguarding Concern in the subject line where possible and provide enough information for us to understand the concern.
Please avoid sending more sensitive personal information than is necessary to explain the issue.
We will take safeguarding reports seriously and consider what action is appropriate in the circumstances. This may include preserving relevant information, restricting contact or access, seeking further information, or referring a matter to an appropriate authority where necessary or required by law.
15. Immediate or Serious Risk
Bancroft Education is not an emergency or crisis service and our email addresses are not continuously monitored.
If you believe that a child, young person or any other person is in immediate danger, or that a serious crime is taking place, you should contact the appropriate emergency services or authorities in the country where the person is located rather than relying on a report to Bancroft Education.
A child or young person who feels unsafe should also be encouraged to speak to a trusted adult, such as a parent, guardian, teacher or other appropriate responsible person.
16. Schools, Teachers and Other Organisations
Schools, teachers, training providers and other organisations that use Bancroft Education resources remain responsible for their own safeguarding arrangements, supervision, risk assessments, policies and legal obligations.
The use of a Bancroft Education resource does not transfer those responsibilities to Bancroft Education.
Organisations should review resources before use and decide whether they are suitable for their learners, educational setting and safeguarding requirements.
17. Privacy, Personal Information and Safeguarding
Safeguarding concerns can sometimes involve sensitive personal information. Where we receive personal information in connection with a safeguarding report, we will handle it in accordance with applicable data-protection requirements and our Privacy Policy.
In some circumstances, it may be necessary or appropriate to share relevant information with authorities, professional advisers, service providers or other appropriate persons in order to protect an individual, investigate a concern, comply with the law or establish, exercise or defend legal rights.
We will seek to limit any such sharing to information that is relevant and appropriate in the circumstances.
18. Third-Party Platforms and Online Safety
Bancroft Education may make content available through third-party platforms such as social media, video, audio or retail services.
These platforms operate under their own terms, privacy settings, reporting systems and safeguarding or safety controls. Users, parents, guardians and teachers should familiarise themselves with the relevant platform controls where appropriate.
If harmful, abusive or inappropriate behaviour occurs entirely on a third-party platform, it may also be appropriate to report the content or account directly to that platform.
19. Changes and Review
We may update this Accessibility & Safeguarding page as our website, resources, services, accessibility practices or safeguarding arrangements develop, or where necessary to reflect changes in law, guidance or recognised good practice.
Any changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
